Diners also appreciate the diverse menu, which caters to both healthy eaters and those craving comfort food. Despite its charm, The Breakwater does face some criticism. Some diners feel that peak hours can lead to longer wait times for both food and drink. The most popular times—especially on Thursdays—tend to see a packed house, which might detract from the overall experience. Additionally, while the menu offers diverse options, a few guests wish for more innovative dishes or seasonal specials that reflect local flavors. Some families also mention that the children's menu could benefit from a few more kid-friendly choices. Lastly, a handful of patrons have noted that while the cozy interior is pleasant, it can feel cramped during busy periods.
This lovely cafe /restaurant is located at the top of the bluff in Ness. Its welcoming interior has seating with wonderful sea views. The atmosphere is very pleasant as are the staff. Lentil soup was delicious for lunch. Highly recommend this place. 👍👍👍
I didn't have high expectations from the most northerly cafe/restaurant in Lewis, but this was a great little place to stop. Super friendly and helpful server. Hot teas (including Lady Grey). Yummy food. Warm interior. But above all, this super priceless view.
A fantastic cafe by, as the name suggests, the breakwater at Port of Ness. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, the food and drinks were of a good quality and a good price.
Very nice cafe in the north of Lewis. Overlooking a small harbor and beach. Upon entering there is a place for drinks and cakes, and next to it is the restaurant. With large windows. We took the soup, haddock, and fish & chips. All flavorful and plenty. Staff is nice and attentive. And all people there were enjoying themselves.
Sweeping views of the harbor. The sticky toffee pudding was moist and fluffy. The ice cream was good too. The lemon and ginger tea was great! Good service too.
An absolute gem, on an island with very little possibilities to eat out! It has a large picture window overlooking stunning Ness Beach and a lovely decor and atmosphere. Very good coffee and we tried quite a bit of the menu, as a familiy of 5 with one lunch visit and 1 dinner. The Nichean Chicken was fabulous, the burgers very good and the pizza is homemade as well, with a crispy crust and toppings to choose from. There's also a little corner with local souvenirs, mostly hand made items. We drove 35 minutes from our cottage to here especially to go to dinner at the end of our week's stay, it's absolutely worth it! Make sure to make a reservation if you want to have dinner (Thursday-Saturday I believe at the moment, August '23), and arrive before noon if you want to pop in spontaniously.
Lovely place for lunch. Great value and quality food with friendly staff. I was recommended by the couple running the local petrol station... I say couple but just working together.. And what a lovely comedy pair!
